  • Comic Book Hero Fancy Dress - 2 June 2017 by Comms Team

    Hi everyone

Poacher is getting crazier every day!!

Activities on Comic Book Legends Subcamp…

Our subcamp HQ, needs colour. We have a big boring Marquee, and it needs a spruce up, so with that in mind, we want to decorate it with “capes” – not just plain boring ones, but with ones that represent you and your groups with a logo like Batman or Superman do!

We also want to have a “Wear your underpants on the outside” Day. We want everyone to create special Comic Book Hero “Pants”, and wear them on the outside for a whole day. We have yet to decide which day, but like all good Comic Book Legends don’t forget your utility belt!

A costume for the party on Thursday – we want to see an array of different Characters from every Comic Book: Desperate Dan, Minnie the Minx, and Banana Man would be a great addition to any Street party – Who will you come as?

The closing ceremony will also be fancy dress linked to our subcamp theme.

Special pants? All my pants are special!

  • Poacher clothing and meet the chiefs - 31 May 2017 by Comms Team

    Hi all,

    More Poacher news

Firstly – there is stuff to buy on the poacher site.

    https://poacher.org.uk/market-place/index.php?route=product/category&path=60_64

Go and knock yourselves out. I like the adult hoodies!

Poacher’s offer of Camper Clothing is made up of T-Shirts, Polo Shirts, Hoodies and Fleece Jackets in a range of three colours, navy, green and purple for both young people and adults alike. All garments are embroidered with the Poacher 2017 logo.  All Clothing should be pre-ordered online as clothing will not be available to purchase on site. You have an option to collect your order on arrival or alternatively pay a shipping charge and have your order sent by courier beforehand.

Secondly, the chiefs of the subcamp want to introduce themselves : meet Andy and Laney!

    Andy

Good day to you all! My name is Andy, and I’m one of your subcamp chiefs. I love all things fun and adventurous, and have a real passion for doing new and exciting things. I have been in Scouting for just over 7 years, and I’ve had a number of roles like Cub Scout Leader, District Commissioner, and most recently I have taken the appointment of Assistant County Commissioner for Scouts. This will be only my second Poacher, however I have attended other Jamborees like Wings 2014, and Essex International Jamboree 2016. I’m looking forward to meeting you all!!

    Laney

Hi my name is Laney! I’m the “real” boss, like so many Comic Book legends, I’m the one that pulls all the strings☺. I’m one of your subcampcChiefs. I love dressing up in funky hats, and a love a good natter over a cuppa. I’ve been in Guiding for way longer than I care to remember, and I’m also a Scouter too… I currently hold the role of joint District Commissioner, and like Andy I started off in group roles as a Scout and Guide Leader. I’ve attended so many Poachers, as subcamp team, and with participants as part of the district team in 2013.

    See you soon

  • Comic Book Legends - 29 May 2017 by Comms Team

BSO are going to be in the Comic book Legends sub camp.

    Break out the Kryptonite!

    1. As Poacher Camp is hosting between 5 and 10,000 people the whole area is split into a number of “sub camps” each with a theme. Our theme is “comic book legends”. This sounds like it is going to be so fun!

Here is what Poacher have to say about it

Whether you’re a fan of The Beano, The Dandy or Comic Book Legends like Spider-Man, Dennis the Menace, or any of the Marvel Characters, there will be a genre that will keep everybody happy.

Each part of the Sub camp will be sub divided into avenues, streets, and drives = each cleverly named after a Comic Book Legend Like Bat Man Boulevard or Wolverine Way.

Each “sub section” will have allocated to you, your three Neighbourhood Reps. These Reps will be your eyes and ears, and will be at your beck and call. With a site of almost 2000 people, we want everyone to have that personal touch, and know that there is always someone who will help you out…

There will be games, there will be competitions, we will even have a create your own Comic Book Legend night, where we want to see your imaginations run wild, How will you dress? What are your special powers, do you have a side kick? – All things to start thinking about now with your groups…

There will be opportunity to take photos, there will be time to meet new people from around the world and make new friends. We will be holding daily challenges, and like all good Comic Book Legends, we wants to see how would your legend participate and deal with any challenge set before you.

On a final note for now, we just want to say, we are super excited to be your sub camp destination for this amazing week of fun, adventure and challenges.

We too are overloading our minds with ideas that are out of this world to bring to you all the idea that being a Comic Book Legend at Poacher 2017, will be a once in a lifetime experience – all that’s left to say is ta ta for now, and remember not long now…… Take care CB Legends 2017….

Andy, Laney and The CB Crew 😊

    OK. Sounds good. Right?

    More coming soon!

  • 8 weeks to go! - 27 May 2017 by Comms Team

    Hi all,
I am getting very excited about Poacher camp. Each time I time I hear about it I am getting new inspiration.

It will be great to see so many people getting together from all over the world and having fun.

In fact we have just been getting flags organised for all the attending units: We will be bringing children from nine different countries (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Singapore, Oman,

France and Spain with young people of ten different nationalities (Belgium, Egypt, France, Holland, India, Ireland, Poland, Spain, Sri Lanka and of course the UK.)

    Did I miss any?!

We want everybody to know that British Scouts overseas are at Poacher so we are ordering some

    T-Shirts

    And some Banners

What we are most excited about now is getting the activities list, so we can share that with you, and start planning all the cool stuff we are going to do.

  • Welcome - 25 May 2017 by Comms Team

    Hi everyone

Welcome to our 2017 BSO Poacher Blog!

This will be the place to give you information before Poacher Camp, and also show you what is going on, when we are all at Poacher.

Here are some of the communication resources that we are putting in place:

    · The BSO Poacher webpage is up and running – on BSO’s great new website. https://www.britishscoutingoverseas.org.uk/poacher-2017/

Poacher have their own webpage, too https://www.poacher.org.uk/

    · We have set up our Facebook group, so that you can see what is going on each day, while we are all on camp. Click here and ask to join, if you haven’t already. Only people in the group can see the messages and pictures posted.

    · Information pack: On the 29th April we had our first webinar and Nathan. If you missed it, the presentation is available on the Facebook page. You can also watch the webinar, which was recorded, on the Facebook page.

    · Then we have this blog! https://www.britishscoutingoverseas.org.uk/poacher-2017-blog/

We intend to push updates to you from time to time before the camp, but once on camp, get the young people writing some updates and sharing their news and experiences.

We feel it is really important that parents get a good view of what is going on, and can see that everybody is safe and having fun.

Once camp has started, and in case of emergencies, we will put in place an “In touch” system. We will tell you more about this later, but we will make sure that we can contact you, and you can contact us.

Keep your eye out for more updates!
