Any personal information you provide to us including and similar to your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address will not be released, sold, or rented to any entities or individuals outside of The Scout Association (UK).

Cookies

A “cookie” is a small data text file that is placed in your browser and allows British Scouting Overseas to recognise you each time you visit this site (customisation etc).

Cookies are used by British Scouting Overseas to carry data that allows us to identify you, if you have an account on our website and log in. Other cookies we use are for customisation to make your experience better.

Data You Provide us With

By filling out a form on our website, you consent to us storing and processing that data. If you provide contact details, you also consent to us contacting you, regarding the topic of the form you filled out (for example, if you fill out a joining enquiry form, we can contact you about that joining enquiry). We will only pass your personal data onto the relevant scout unit (group, section or district), which are not considered to be third parties. We will only do this if it is necessary to the purpose of you filling out the form. We will never pass your personal data to a third party for use by them. We also use responses to forms to improve our processes. Data submitted to our contact form will be sent to the person you request to contact and will also be stored in our website’s database/email systems.

If you log into our website, we may store data, such as who you are, when you logged in, your IP address, the browser and operating system you used, what pages you visited and associate data you provide in forms with your name and your membership number (assigned by The Scout Association (UK)). You consent to us storing and processing this data by logging in.

We track all visitors to our website, to enable us to understand how and when our website is used. This will help us to make improvements to our website and services we offer. In doing this, we record the page you are visiting along with an encrypted, hashed version of your IP address, a prediction of the country you are in and the time you visit the page. Encrypting and hashing your IP means we do not have a copy of it, but it allows us to assign an anonymous identity with your data, to help us understand how users navigate around our website.

After a period of 5 years of you providing us with the data or an event you are providing data for occurs (whichever is later), any data that identifies you will be deleted from our storage. We may chose to keep the data in an anonymised state, providing there is very low chance that anyone could be identified from it.

Where Data is Stored

All data you provide to us by using this website is stored on servers in the EU and is therefore subject to EU data protection laws. We use one provider for our servers and systems, which is Microsoft Corporation. We have agreements with them so that they will not access our data, except to provide services for us. They will not pass on any data to third parties, unless required to by law.

Remember the Risks Whenever you use the Internet

While we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information that you transmit to British Scouting Overseas and you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of any passwords or other account information. In addition, other Internet sites or services that may be accessible through British Scouting Overseas have separate data and privacy practices independent of us, and therefore we disclaim any responsibility or liability for their policies or actions.
