British Scouting Overseas is looking for creative and technically minded volunteers to help us redesign and relaunch our website as we move from our current platform to WordPress. British Scouting Overseas supports Scouting for young people and adult volunteers across the world. Our website is an important place for members, parents, volunteers and new families to find information, access resources and discover how to get involved. We are now redesigning the site so it is clearer, easier to update and better reflects the adventure, community and impact of Scouting overseas. About the role We are seeking volunteers to join the BSO Website Team and help develop our new website. These roles would suit people who enjoy practical digital projects, can work collaboratively with others, and want to use their skills to support Scouting across the globe.

New BSO Chair: Chris Wall

I am delighted to share that Chris Wall has been appointed as Interim Chair for BSO. Chris is an Explorer Leader in Oman as well as part of the 2027 World Conference organising teaming held in the UK. He joined scouting as Beaver and went through to Network and a leader of local scout troop in the UK. Chris then took a break from Scouting when he moved overseas. He then volunteers to help with Explorers when he moved to Oman a couple years ago. Chris’s deep understanding of the federated structure of Scouts will bring value to how we enhance our governance across BSO. His strong professional relationships across the Middle East will be of great benefit to our groups in this region where we have seen, and continue to see, strong growth. On his appointment Chris said "I’m truly delighted to take on the role of Chair for British Scouting Overseas. My sincere thanks go to Jane for her service, and I’m excited to work with the trustee board to build on this strong foundation and enable even more young people to take part in Scouting around the world."

Congratulations to our @brussels_explorers Gold @international_award team on completion of their expedition. Alongside the usual challenges of a 4 day hike they have had to contend with pre and last minute changes to the route due to the serious moorland fires with both campsite and route closures in the area.

Last week our Brussels Explorers were enjoying the great weather in the UK on their summer camp to the Peak District

It's summer and our Visits abroad are in full swing with 1st Prague Scout Group, SHAPE Explorers, Sonian Explorer Scouts and Aberdeen Explorers at The Danish National Jamboree 2026 (Spejdernes Lejr 2026). Today everyone is on site for our first full day together. We will be collectively known as the Piglets for the week

A fantastic weekend of activities at our BSO Northern Europe District camp in Germany with groups from across the district 🇧🇪🇳🇱🇨🇿🇱🇺

Campfire without the smoke! ⛺🔥 1st Lone Scout Group just had a virtual campfire, singing songs, generally having a good time, and even eating s’mores! Our members from Germany, Portugal, Tanzania and South Africa all joined in the spirit of the campfire, over teams, just without the smoke following us! It was a privilege to be able to meet and speak with our BSO King Scouts today at Windsor, where as a movement we celebrated the achievements of so many.

This week at our @praguescouts Squirrels, we made the most of the beautiful spring weather by heading outside to enjoy the fresh leaves and blooming flowers. We listened to a story, got creative making friendly spiders from recycled bottle caps, and started working towards our Brilliant Builder Badge!

The role will focus on supporting our adult volunteers with accessing First Aid courses which meet the First Aid Course requirement in The Scouts. We're recruiting a Technical volunteer for our BSO Heritage Team We’re looking for someone with technical skills to support our project to preserve British Scouting Overseas ( and its predecessors) History, so that the content we collect and curate can be online and accessible with the minimal need for updating and software upgrades. Scouting in BSO doesn't just take place in person every week. Our Lone Cubs have been meeting online for the last 2 years, where we provide British Scouting to British nationals overseas where there are not enough people to form a local group. Just before Christmas 2 of our Lone Cubs became the first Lone Scouts to complete their Chief Scout Silver Awards. Congratulations

This week our @praguescouts had such a relaxed Squirrels session as they worked towards their Feel Good badge. The Squirrels took things nice and easy — they built the cosiest pillow fort, spent some calming time colouring mandalas, and made a beautiful yarn craft to take home. It was all about slowing down, feeling comfortable, and enjoying being together.

Two Northern Europe Network, two Djursholm Explorers and a Leader made their Scout Promises at the top of a different summit as a part of the Stockholm Seven Summits camp recently. 🧱 Explorer Scouts Construction Chaos! 🏗️ This week our @praguescouts Explorers swapped tents for toolkits (and plenty of marshmallows 🍡) as they tackled a series of construction challenges! From building the tallest marshmallow towers (and testing their snack resistance 😋), to designing bridges to span mighty “rivers,” and even attempting the legendary Da Vinci Bridge – there was no shortage of creativity, chaos, or laughter. Let’s just say… some structures were architectural masterpieces 🏰, others were more… “abstract art” 🎨. But all were built with teamwork, determination, and a healthy dose of fun! Inspired by 16th World Scout Moot Portugal 2025 our 1st Djursholm Scouts last night got a taste of Portuguese tradition with a combination of two stick-fighting arts that had everyone concentrating hard! 🇵🇹 The Scouts learned the basics of Jogo do Pau (game of the stick) and Fandango do Pau in pairs, working on their timing and precision before facing off in a rhythmic duel that was part martial arts, part performance, and all incredibly satisfying fun. Our performance as a whole group perhaps needs a little more practice (as could the Leader’s timing counting!) but it made for some very amusing mistakes along the way! With GibJam all finished an opportunity to explore Gibraltar. It was great spending the day with 1st Tenerife as they explored the tunnels deep into the Rock of Gibraltar.

Day 2 at GibJam with activities across site and hiking to the top of the Rock. The evening saw cultural exchanges with music from the @gibraltarscouts bands before a disco in the night.

Of course, we couldn’t resist turning it into a race to see who could finish the fastest 😂 And a huge welcome to our newest Vltava Scouts, who were officially invested this week – we’re so glad to have you on board!

Last weekend Darya (Middle East) and Theo (Northern Europe) from our BSO Youth Leadership Team join with Youth Leads from across UK Scouting at latest Youth Lead Support weekend. These events are fantastic in supporting our young people develop in their roles and to contribute to the wider picture for The Scouts.

Earlier this month, the 1st Singapore Scouts and Explorers travelled to Indonesia for an international service project. Together, they dug and laid the drainage for a toilet system, built a safe water garden, and donated both a water tower and a water filter to a rural family. Although modest in scale, this project will make a lasting difference — helping to reduce the shocking statistic that 370 children in Indonesia die every day from inadequate sanitation. They also had plenty of fun with sea swimming, boom nets, coconut tree climbing, and a campfire under the stars. This was the very first international trip organised by the leaders — and we hope it will be the first of many more to come!

Sonian Explorer Scouts had a busy weekend last weekend with an investiture by our District Youth Lead, a Wood Badge presentation by our 2 Area Learning Team Leads and several awards presented by our District Lead Volunteer (DLV) and Area Lead Volunteer (ALV) British Scouting Overseas. Many congratulations to Nathanael, who achieved his King's Scout Award a week before his 17th birthday. The King's Scout Award is the highest award for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members. Congratulations as well to Miles on his Chief Scout's Platinum Award. Today 1st Bougival Scout Group leaders joined forces with 1st Maison Lafitte and attended the 85th celebration of the Battle of Britain at the Arc d’triumph followed by a soiree at the British Embassy.

It’s great as Lead Volunteer to get out and about, this with a whistle stop trip to Belgium to meet our district lead for Northern Europe, Phil. It was also a privilege to present a King Scout Award to Nathaniel of @sonianexplorers and celebrate Jos and Irina’s Award for Merits, recognising their distinguished service over the last decade.

🌊 A Great Day by the Bay! ⚜️ Our @1stkotorbayseascouts had an amazing picnic today at Prčanj! 🏖️ Scouts, parents, and leaders spent a wonderful day together — swimming, playing, and sharing great food under the sun. During the day, the Scouts also planned the program for the upcoming meetings, choosing activities they are most excited about. One of their top suggestions? An Autumn Camp! 🍂⛺ We’re now preparing for a weekend full of adventure at the Montenegrin Scouts Base in Prčanj — 24th to 26th October. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it a special moment for our growing group.

Huge congratulations to our Brussels Explorers leader Jon, presented with the Silver Acorn award this weekend by our Northern Europe District Lead Volunteer Phil. The Silver Acorn is award to recognise especially distinguished service in British Scouting for at least 20 years.

Most people don't like Mondays.... but this one @kentjamboree was great! -We started the morning off great with pancakes🥞 -Then the scouts & explorers did an awesome run with bouncy castles, paint, mud & other obstacles!🪜🏃‍♂️ -The afternoon they spent at the Vancouver Area, which had loads of bouncy castles& games ⛹️‍♀️⛹️‍♂️ -Then we had a delicious dinner prepared by Lion Patrol🦁 The Mediterranean meal was voted on and consisted of grilled chicken, salsa, beans salad, tadjziki, wraps, haloumi & wedges

Earlier this month @southern_europe_bso took part in an awesome adventure at @speiderneslandsleir Everyone had an amazing time joining in Nordic Scouting with activities including building a huge three storey flagpole, open fires that were almost as big and hiking around the stunning scenery. Scouts, Explorers, Network and Leaders from Fuengirola, Madrid, Majadahonda and Toulouse took part in this great Scouting adventure. A huge well done to our team from Paris Explorers who have successfully completed Dragnet 2025 in the English Lake District. Congratulations to Edward, Tilly, Daniel and Mattes who managed to still have one life left in the DragNet having walked 61km in 31 hours. This is the first time a BSO team has entered this national competition. The explorers said that their biggest challenge was the unpredictable Lake District weather which they described as “miserable and grim”. A huge thanks to the explorer leaders, Karen and Alan, for facilitating the event. #SkillsForLife

Tonight our lead volunteer, Graham was able to spend the evening with Toulouse and Madrid Explorers, with @2ndinverness at @speiderneslandsleir for an evening campfire.

We still have many volunteers who have not completed the new Scouts Safety learning which is a requirement for all adults. The deadline for them to complete this learning is July 14th. Please can we ask for everyone to put in a bit of time to get this sorted. If you've not done the new learning, please do so. If you've tried and can't log in or aren't sure how to, please reach out to your Team Leader. If you're not sure whether you've done the learning, go to learn.scouts.org.uk and check your Safety Due date. If you've already done it and have checked, PLEASE help us by chatting to Scouts volunteers you know regularly and check they've done theirs, helping them if you can. Let's keep this on the agenda and keep actioning it until every adult volunteer in BSO who needs to do the learning has done it. Let's keep young people safe.

1st Majadahonda British Scouts had over 50 people at their water camp on one of the hottest weekends of the year so far on a campsite in central Spain at the Pantano de San Juan lake. The short rain shower on Sunday was very welcome! #SkillsForLife

Sonian Explorer Scouts and 1st Brussels (British) Scouts attended the Act of Remembrance in Evere last Saturday, organised by the Royal British Legion Brussels (RBL Brussels Branch), with our Explorers laying the wreath and reading the poem "A Soldier's Elegy", written by our Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Silver team of 2023. This year, we also have former Sonian Explorer, F, as Deputy Standard Bearer alongside C from Brussels Explorers for RBL. We also had the pleasure of meeting WW2 veteran Count Henri d’Oultremont, who served with the Piron Brigade. British Scouting Overseas, #SkillsForLife
