New BSO Youth Lead: Theo Lasar

August 3, 2026
I'm delighted to share the news that Theo Lasar has been appointed as our BSO Youth Lead. Theo will succeed Charlotte, who has given outstanding service as our BSO Youth Lead since 2022, at our AGM during Gilwell Reunion in September. Theo brings has a background of scouting within BSO having started as a Beaver in Telstar, going through all the sections locally in Luxembourg before joining Scout Network last year. On his appointment Theo says, "Having served as Deputy District Youth Lead for Northern Europe over the past year, I have had the opportunity to work alongside District Youth Teams, volunteers and, most importantly, Young People across BSO. As BSO Youth Lead, I look forward to building on that experience by working with the Leadership Team, District Youth Teams and Young People across the Area to continue strengthening youth-shaped Scouting and creating more opportunities for young people to shape their own Scouting experience." The BSO Youth Lead role helps to champion youth voice across Scouts, lead our Youth Team across BSO and contributes to BSO-level decision making as a member of our BSO Leadership Team and BSO Board of Trustees.. The role also supports us to deliver our strategic priorities, and we're confident Theo is the best person to help us do this. He is passionate about giving all young people a place to belong, delivering our strategy to 2035. We're incredibly thankful for everything Charlotte has done for BSO during her term in the role and look forward to celebrating her achievements in the future. New BSO Chair: Chris Wall

I am delighted to share that Chris Wall has been appointed as Interim Chair for BSO. Chris is an Explorer Leader in Oman as well as part of the 2027 World Conference organising teaming held in the UK. He joined scouting as Beaver and went through to Network and a leader of local scout troop in the UK. Chris then took a break from Scouting when he moved overseas. He then volunteers to help with Explorers when he moved to Oman a couple years ago. Chris’s deep understanding of the federated structure of Scouts will bring value to how we enhance our governance across BSO. His strong professional relationships across the Middle East will be of great benefit to our groups in this region where we have seen, and continue to see, strong growth. On his appointment Chris said "I’m truly delighted to take on the role of Chair for British Scouting Overseas. My sincere thanks go to Jane for her service, and I’m excited to work with the trustee board to build on this strong foundation and enable even more young people to take part in Scouting around the world."

1st Abu Dhabi Scout Group were invited to attend the European International Day organized by The German International School Abu Dhabi. Beavers, Cubs & Scouts had a great night exploring other cultures, playing fun educational games and collecting amazing gifts offered by the participating stands. It was a great moment of bonding, learning and understanding different parts of the World. The group ended the night with the “broken telephone” team-building game organised by the Scout Patrol leaders. The recent Cybersecurity Awareness Event for our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts was a fantastic success —combining hands-on activities, digital safety tips, and loads of curiosity from our young people. Designed to be age-appropriate and engaging, the event helped demystify key online safety issues in a way that was both fun and educational. Why it matters: Young people today are growing up in a digital world. Whether it’s messaging friends, using apps, playing games, or accessing schoolwork, the internet is part of daily life but with that comes the need to navigate it safely and responsibly. Cybersecurity isn’t just about protecting passwords—it’s about making smart choices, understanding risks, and knowing what to do if something goes wrong. What we learned: Through games, discussions, and challenges, our young people explored topics such as: -Keeping personal information private -Spotting suspicious messages or scams -Creating strong, memorable passwords -Knowing who to talk to if something doesn’t feel right online The impact: The event empowered our young members with practical knowledge and confidence. It helped start conversations about online safety that continue at home and during meetings. Most importantly, it reminded us that digital awareness is now an essential part of preparing young people with skills for life. A huge thank you to the volunteers and professionals who helped deliver the sessions—you’ve made a lasting impact. Meet 5th Dubai Squirrels! 🐿️ They are the first Squirrel Drey in the UAE! The Squirrels held their investiture ceremony in the park and were confident enough to make their Squirrel Scout promises individually. They had a picnic afterwards to celebrate. Even Sandy the Squirrel, 5th Dubai’s mascot, made his promise and proudly wears his necker. It was a special moment for Owl (Lucy) who was able to invest her own daughter into our Scout family.
