About the role
We are looking to appoint 2 volunteers to develop and support the International Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme across British Scouting Overseas, as part of the Programme Team.
The roles will focus on supporting our Award Centres and those engaged in delivering the Award programme.
Person specification
Key tasks (which will be split between roles)
- Delivery and expansion of the International Award across all parts of BSO.
- Programme for Training across BSO Districts, to enable Districts to deliver the award.
- To deliver International Award training and assessment Adventurous Journeys in partnership with Districts across BSO
- Deliver the International Award in BSO as part of our objective of increasing Top Award attainment.
- Build an International Award Team to deliver on our objectives.
Responsible to BSO Programme Lead
Responsible for: BSO Award Centres (Explorers Units and Scout Networks)
Knowledge and Experience
- Understanding of the Scout Association
- A working knowledge of the International Award Scheme
- Experience of planning and running training courses
- Experience of Scouts or another youth organisation (Desirable)
- Knowledge of BSO (Desirable)
Skills and Abilities
- Good IT skills as most learning will be done online
- Good Communication skills
- Ability to create engaging training resources
- Organised
- Able to work independently and as part of a wider team

- Creative
- A good listener & approachable

There are 2 roles available – please state on your application which you are interested in.
Role 1 - Working with existing Award Centres.
This role will include
- Supporting our existing Award Centres with all aspects of delivery of the Award,
- Keeping ORB information up to date regarding adult leaders and training records,
- Organising and supporting Adventurous Journeys to make sure we are compliant with both the International Award and Scout Activity Permits and Scout Nights Away Permits.
- Verifying Awards on completion
- Supporting and organising events to celebrate completed Awards and presentation of Awards
Role 2 - Working with new Award Centres.
This role will include
- Promoting the Award across BSO and growing the numbers of participants
- Working with new Award Centres to support them through the Licensing and start up procedures.
- Delivering training at Level 2 of the Award Training Scheme.
- Organising and supporting Adventurous Journeys to make sure we are compliant with both the International Award and Scout Activity Permits and Scout Nights Away Permits.
- Developing and delivering a long term inclusive strategy for the International Award, as part of the Scout Strategy A Place To Belong.
