About the role

We're looking for a our leadership team for the 2026 BSO Summer Camp to the Swedish National Jamboree.


We are recruiting now for a Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader for this camp, with those wishing to attend as a Team member able to register an expression of interest.   A further round of team member recruitment may take place at a later date.


When?

25 July – 1 August, 2026.


Where?

Norra Åsum, just outside the city of Kristianstad in Skåne, the most southern region of Sweden. The camp site is close to where the World Scout Jamboree was held in 2011.

Main Activities

Recruitment

  • Collaborate with the Area team to advertise, identify and recruit a diverse and skilled adult team for the jamboree.


Planning

  • Create a coherent plan for all aspects of the planning camp and review.
  • Utilise the skills within the leadership team and young people to deliver your plan.


Leadership and Mentoring

  • Act as a mentor and role model for adult leaders.
  • Assist adult leaders in setting and achieving their goals within the camp.
  • Address any concerns, performance issues or conflict within the adult team.
  • Work respectfully with individuals to identify and resolve challenges they may face.


Safety and Safeguarding

  • Ensure the implementation and adherence to safety and safeguarding processes by all adult team members
  • Safeguard the well-being of both Scouts and the adult team during training and throughout the event.


Team Building

  • Unite the diverse adult team members who may be working together for the first time.
  • Foster connections and promote effective communication within the team.


Financial Management and Reporting

Budget Oversight

  • Manage the budget effectively, ensuring that funds are allocated wisely to meet camp objectives.
  • Track expenses, income, and financial records.


Post Camp Report

  • Collaborate with the whole team to assess the camp's success and gather feedback from participants.
  • Create a comprehensive post-camp report for the Area Trustee Board, highlighting financial details and camp outcomes including successes and improvements for future camp leads.


Overall Running of the Camp

Onsite-Programme Execution

  • Collaborate with the KIJ team to ensure young people enjoy a diverse range of activities and experiences.


Logistics and Camp Operations

  • Oversee logistical aspects, including equipment, facilities, and resources
  • Ensure the efficient operation of camp facilities and services.


Safety and Emergency Management

  • Develop and implement Risk Assessments and emergency response plans.
  • Be prepared to manage and respond to any emergencies that may arise during the camp.


Camp Welfare and Wellbeing

  • Monitor adults performance in their assigned roles, including the supervision of young people during cooking and cleaning duties.
  • Ensure adults look after the well-being of their respective patrols.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Interact with parents of camp participants, adult leaders, and external partners.
  • Maintain effective communication to address concerns and ensure a positive camp experience.
  • Deliver pre-camp briefings to parents and participants to ensure they are fully prepared.
  • Maintain social media posts before and during the camp to keep parents informed

About the role The Chair of British Scouting Overseas’ (BSO) will provide inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees. The Chair will ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the BSO Lead Volunteer (and their team) to achieve agreed objectives and oversight. BSO Southern Europe wishes to appoint an additional trustee. Our trustee board provides collective leadership and oversight of the charity, and supports our volunteers who deliver our programme to young people around the world. The Trustee Board’s role is to support our volunteer line managers, through the District Lead Volunteer and District Chair, so that they can be as successful as possible in their role of supporting leadership teams to deliver our programme. You may be of any nationality and live in any part of the world – the only condition is that you are willing and able to carry out the duties of a trustee and to bring a constructive and independent-minded approach to the role. We are keen to include younger adults in the team. Applications from within Southern Europe are encouraged About BSO BSO is a part of the UK Scout Association with headquarters in Gilwell Park, London. BSO members have access to the same resources, support and programme as UK based Scout groups. BSO exists to support British families living overseas in the provision of a UK Scouting programme to expatriate British children and to several British Overseas Territories. We aim to ensure that all our members have the opportunity to feel and experience high quality UK Scouting whilst providing support and advice to adult members no matter where they are in the world. BSO undertakes Scouting activities in a safe and secure environment with flexibility to adapt to both local customs and guidelines set out within The Scout Association's policies and rules. BSO operates 57 Scout Groups, 22 Explorer Units and 3 Scout Networks, with an impressive 2,997 young people supported by 936 adult volunteer leaders across 30 countries around the world. Whilst most adult volunteer members are delivering programme activities with our young people, many volunteers are also based in the UK offering support, training, mentoring, governance and resources in a variety of different roles from trustee to marketing and event support to skills assessors. BSO is fully inclusive and open to all who share our fundamental values. BSO exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
