Area Team - Leadership

Lead Volunteer

I’ve been active in Scouting since I joined as a Cub, progressing through all the sections at my group, 2nd Inverness (Kingsmills) becoming a leader in 2002.  I was delighted to be appointed GSL  in 2016 whilst continuing with the Scout Section, after several years holding District and Regional roles.

In my role as Area Lead Volunteer, I lead our leadership team who provide leadership, guidance and support to our members across BSO.

Youth Lead

I started Scouting in 1st Salmiya Kuwait group in the Middle East District as a Cub, then Scout, Explorer and eventually Young Leader. Later moving into the Northern Europe District as DDYC and then DYC (as well as Network member!).

Outside of Scouting, I go to Loughborough University and am studying International Relations (although currently on a placement year working in internal communications and global campaigns).

I’m really excited to be BSO’s first Area Youth Lead, working alongside Alex, the DYC’s and Area team to develop Youth Led Scouting across the Area. 😊

Programme Lead

I have been involved in scouting for many years, and have held several roles including Explorer Leader, Assistant County Commissioner Activities, Manager of the Permit Scheme for Lincolnshire,  and Assistant District Commissioner Activities. I have been involved in the planning and running of many overseas trips including Sweden, Denmark, Kandersteg , also Explorer Belts,  Duke of Edinburgh and Scouts of the World Awards. 

Outside of scouting I work as an Outdoor Instructor, delivering Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and residentials, multi activity residential for younger ages groups, canoe and kayak coaching and expeditions, and mountain training. 

I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing to improve and widen the programme ideas and activities that we can offer to both young people and leaders, helping them to grow and develop their skills. 

Support Lead

Chris has a strong background in International Scouting having served for 16 years on the Kandersteg committee, whilst also being a apart of the UKHQ International Team, during David Bull’s tenure as International Commissioner, and more locally as Assistant County Commissioner (International) for West Mercia.   Chris was also one of the early lead volunteers for the ScoutBase website created for UK Scouting in the 90s.  Most recently Chris is currently volunteering as Group Treasurer of his local Scout Group.

Professionally, Chris is a Chief Information officer for a large organisation leading and managing remote teams. 

Chris started his Scouting Adventures as a Cub and then Scout, before moving as a helper and then leader.  The Moot in Sweden gave his first proper international Scouting experience, before falling in love with Kandersteg where he was on its Committee for 16 years,.

Volunteer Development Team Lead

I started my Scouting life as a Cub Leader before changing to Beaver Scout Leader and was one of the first groups in Warrington to start the section.  I have held many roles in Warrington and Cheshire at Group, District and County Level.

Outside of Scouting I am a trustee for a dog fundraising team who raise funds for Spaniels all over the world.  This is all done online using Facebook.  I am also a member of Rock Choir and have joined Rock & Sign where we are learning to sign the songs we learn at choir so that next year when out on gigs we can sign to our audience.
